Kimi Pakarinen (b. 1963) is a visual artist who studied at the Free Art School in the 1980s and is recognized as one of the leading figures in Finnish abstract painting. His work is deeply rooted in the physical and emotional power of color, combined with an intuitive approach to painting. Pakarinen has also worked as a painting instructor at the Free Art School.
Drawing from the traditions of American abstract expressionism, Pakarinen takes his expression further by disrupting and challenging balance. His paintings go beyond simple aesthetic solutions, offering the viewer a multilayered experience where the energy and physicality of the painting process are strongly present. Layers of color form dynamic surfaces where beauty meets bold composition and sensitivity.
Pakarinen’s works honor the spirit of modernism but are never merely decorative. His approach to painting is honest and devoted, allowing the works to develop their own logic. In his paintings, historical layers of art seamlessly merge with intuitive expression, ensuring that theoretical distance never interferes with emotional impact.
Pakarinen’s work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Finland and internationally, and his paintings are included in several public and private collections.
