Maisa Majakka (b. 1989) is a Helsinki-based visual artist and sculptor who works primarily with ceramics. Her figurative sculptures often depict people—especially girls and women—and intertwine the artist’s own experiences, real places, contemporary experiences, and characters from popular culture. Majakka is inspired by everyday moments of freedom, the transformative nature of youth, and emotional ambivalence: the desire to be present and, at the same time, the desire to escape.

Majakka’s relationship with ceramics stems from both its age-old traditions and the immediacy and malleability of the material. She began making ceramic figures in 2011, and miniature sculptures have since become an important part of her work as an area of experimentation and playfulness.

Majakka graduated with a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the Academy of Fine Arts in 2022, specializing in sculpture. Her works have been actively exhibited in Finland and abroad, and are owned by the State, HAM Helsinki Art Museum, Vantaa and Oulu Art Museums, as well as several foundations and collections.
