Claw Marks on the Moon
Camilla Mihkelsoo paints women who seem to have descended from outer space. They have stepped out of nostalgic science fiction films; they are like a vision of the future from the past. They arrive from a time when smoking was associated with glamour and rebellion. They want to appear independent and dangerous. In addition to women, cats often appear in the paintings. The cats’ eyes, movements, and presence fit perfectly with the mood of the works. The cats serve as a key to the inner world of the characters and are mysterious and unpredictable. They do not submit, but observe.
