Beyond Pitkäsilta (Metropolis)
Joel Karppanen has moved from the countryside and industrial city into a metropolis. The new body of work explores Helsinki under transformation where the contemporary working class is represented by food couriers. Karppanen worked as a food courier for a month and wrote an essay about the experience. These photographs offer a new perspective on Helsinki. Their succinct societal statements interlock fluently with an aesthetic that distills the atmosphere of the city in a delicate way.
